Objective

PitchBook users face challenges within the platform when completing these workflows. Our goal is to ensure they can confidently find all companies within an industry they have defined and efficiently analyze them.

My objective was to validate a product roadmap that would allow PitchBook users to easily identify, discover and explore existing and emerging industries and then collaborate with each other to further define and analyze the data.

Target Users

For the roadmap we focused on our core four users: Venture Capitalists, Private Equity Firms, Corporate Strategic Acquirers and Mergers & Acquisitions.

Research

We conducted 3 workshops to learn more about the problem space and hear what issues users were having in their current workflow.

Painpoints

After conducting the workshops we sifted through the feedback and found some common pain points.

  • Data tagging is incomplete and inaccurate

  • Advanced Search is complicated & does not provide users with what they need efficiently upfront

  • General Search provides limited searching abilities

  • Users need context and suggestions throughout their searching workflow

  • Users want more help with analyzing data quickly and efficiently

  • Users wanted more tools and less assumptions of what they want

roadmap Updates

After identifying the pain points we went through one by one and were able to validate majority of the roadmap items. While going through we reworded and clarified projects in order to create alignment between stakeholders and the feedback we received in our workshops.

In the end we were able to get clarity on where to focus our efforts as a product team and moved forward in presenting the revised roadmap to our CEO and CPO.

The Result

Our roadmap was approved by our CEO and CPO. As a result we began work on the first item on the roadmap looking to provide quick analysis of industries.  Industry Analytics

After the roadmap was approved we brought more teams onto the initiative to begin work.
